AFI KLM E&M welcomes first spare LEAP-1B in Amsterdam

Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) has taken delivery of its first spare LEAP-1B engine in Amsterdam, marking a key step in its recently signed agreement to acquire up to 10 LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines from CFM International.

The arrival forms part of the group’s strategy to strengthen its LEAP Premier MRO portfolio and enhance operational continuity for airlines operating LEAP-powered fleets.

By building a dedicated pool of spare LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines, AFI KLM E&M aims to offer rapid engine replacements, helping customers minimise aircraft downtime while primary engines undergo maintenance or performance restoration work.

Jean-Louis Forest, senior vice president engines product at AFI KLM E&M, said: “The arrival of our first spare LEAP-1B engine represents a strategic step forward for AFI KLM E&M and our airline partners.

“This investment not only strengthens our commitment to operational excellence but also ensures that we can deliver faster, more reliable support when our customers need it most.

“By expanding our LEAP engine portfolio, we’re reaffirming our dedication to innovative, world-class MRO services and the long-term success of airlines worldwide.”

The milestone reflects growing global demand for the fuel-efficient LEAP engine family, which underpins the latest generation of single-aisle aircraft.

In addition to spare engine support, AFI KLM E&M continues to provide quick-turn services, performance restoration and on-wing support as part of its broader LEAP capability offering.

The expanded spare engine capacity is expected to further improve aircraft availability for operators as the in-service LEAP fleet continues to grow.
