{"id":1206,"date":"2025-11-28T11:54:18","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T11:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zephyrsys.us\/index.php\/2025\/11\/28\/skybus-re-opens-easterns-cornwall-gatwick-route\/"},"modified":"2025-11-28T11:54:18","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T11:54:18","slug":"skybus-re-opens-easterns-cornwall-gatwick-route","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zephyrsys.us\/index.php\/2025\/11\/28\/skybus-re-opens-easterns-cornwall-gatwick-route\/","title":{"rendered":"Skybus re-opens Eastern\u2019s Cornwall-Gatwick route"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/low-cost\/eastern-airways-cancels-all-flights-as-administration-looms\/\">closure of Eastern Airways earlier this month<\/a>,\u00a0 Skybus, the airline of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, has re-opened the route connecting Cornwall Airport Newquay with London Gatwick.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Skybus was awarded the interim Public Service Obligation (PSO) contract by Cornwall Council to operate what it considers to be a vital route.<\/p>\n<p>Originally, Skybus planned to use an ATR wet-leased from Blue Islands, another UK regional. However, this airline <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/low-cost\/blue-islands-staff-redundant-as-liquidators-appointed\/\">also went into administration<\/a> during November, putting an end to that deal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aviationbusinessnews.com\/industry-news\/skybus-to-launch-newquay-gatwick-route-with-atr72\/\">Skybus to launch Newquay-Gatwick route with ATR72<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Instead, Skybus has secured a short wet lease on a B737-800 belonging to Ascend Airways which will be operated under Guernsey-based airline Aurigny\u2019s licence. The Boeing will be replaced in early December with a Q400, according to the airline<\/p>\n<p>From Sunday 23rd November, a refreshed timetable of daily flights is in operation, with the schedule set to increase to twice-daily weekday services in February 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Hinkles, Managing Director of Skybus, said: \u201cToday\u2019s flight is a proud moment for Skybus and a major step forward for connectivity in Cornwall.
