European aviation tech giant Amadeus has released a new search traffic filtering service to help airlines cope with spiralling volumes.<\/p>\n
The move from traditional EDIFACT distribution platform to New Distribution Capability is allowing carriers to take more control of the offering made to the consumer.<\/p>\n
But, it is also seeing increased strain on airline IT systems, particularly as traveller search and shopping activity is increasing due to more mobile use as well as the impact of AI.<\/p>\n
With airlines looking to provide more accurate \u2018real-time\u2019 pricing, this risks airlines becoming overwhelmed with search queries, the vast majority of which are unlikely to convert.<\/p>\n
Amadeus\u2019 Advanced Airline Profile promises to help airlines manage traffic at scale using machine learning to filter out traffic irrelevant or inactionable traffic.<\/p>\n
The firm hopes it will support carriers who have looked to scale back their NDC ambitions or impose \u2018look-to-book\u2019 limits on travel agency partners.<\/p>\n
Delphine Domingues, head of Travel distribution product marketing management, at Amadeus, said:<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery day, airlines are flooded with NDC shopping requests\u2014many irrelevant or simply unactionable.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis leads to sub-optimal processes for both airlines and travel sellers\u00a0and\u00a0represents\u00a0a significant cost issue for the whole industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmadeus Advanced Airline Profile helps address this challenge by enabling NDC search at scale.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore solutions are coming soon, as we continue to deliver impactful, scalable capabilities for the entire travel ecosystem in close collaboration with our customers.\u201d<\/p>\n
By applying machine learning logic and \u201cadvanced parameters\u201d Amadeus Advanced Airline Profile\u00a0intelligently filters\u00a0out irrelevant requests\u00a0from travel sellers\u00a0before interrogating airlines\u2019\u00a0systems.<\/p>\n
Amadeus claims this\u00a0\u201csignificantly reduces\u201d unproductive traffic\u00a0and\u00a0makes\u00a0airlines\u00a0see a\u00a0\u201csignificantly\u00a0lower look-to-book ratio on their systems, and\u00a0reduced\u00a0infrastructure strain\u201d.<\/p>\n
Early results are said to have shown\u00a0unproductive traffic\u00a0reduced by\u00a0up to\u00a070%, depending on\u00a0the\u00a0airline\u00a0profile, without compromising on the offer quality.<\/p>\n
Maxime\u00a0Boussard, NDC program director at\u00a0AirFrance\u00a0\u2013 KLM, said: \u201cAfter the implementation of\u00a0Amadeus Advanced\u00a0Airline\u00a0Profile into Amadeus Travel Platform,\u00a0the solution has successfully blocked more than 70% of irrelevant\u00a0traffic\u00a0to our system.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has enabled us to focus on the most relevant NDC shopping requests, resulting in higher conversion and lower system strain.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat means sharper performance for us, more meaningful queries for travel sellers, and a smoother experience for our travellers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Deployment of Advanced\u00a0Airline\u00a0Profile is underway across all Amadeus NDC airlines and is expected to be completed by Q1 2026. It\u00a0will be\u00a0available\u00a0by default\u00a0to all airline and travel seller\u00a0customers.<\/p>\n
Sara de Biase, flights director for \u00a0lastminute.com, said: \u201cAmadeus Advanced Airline Profile significantly reduces unproductive search volumes and channels focus toward high-value requests.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis optimisation directly improves poll-to-book ratios and overall conversion rates, with seamless deployment and without disruption to existing workflows.\u201d<\/p>\n
