Air China Cargo has increased its cargo service between Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in China from four flights per week to a daily service.<\/p>\n
PIK said the expansion strengthens Scotland\u2019s direct cargo connectivity with a major cargo hub serving the southwestern regions of China, and provides a key entry point for Scottish exports including salmon, seafood, and whisky.<\/p>\n
Ian Forgie, chief executive of PIK, said: \u201cThe move to daily flights to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport reflects the strength of demand for direct cargo connectivity between the UK and China.<\/p>\n
\u201cPrestwick is increasingly recognised by international carriers as a strategic cargo gateway linking the UK with key Chinese logistics hubs, enabling Scottish exporters to reach major regional markets quickly and reliably.\u201d<\/p>\n
PIK also serves as one of the UK bases for China Southern Air Logistics, which run a further four flights per week.<\/p>\n
Air China Cargo\u2019s new daily service brings the total number of scheduled cargo flights to 15 direct to China, with the trade routes expected to facilitate over \u00a3250 million of cross-border trade in 2026.<\/p>\n
Colin Dai, regional director, Asia, at PIK, said: \u201cChengdu is one of the most important logistics hubs in western China, and a critical gateway into the southwestern regions of the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cDaily connectivity enables Scottish exporters to move premium products such as salmon, seafood, and whisky into China while also supporting faster and more reliable imports into Scotland from one of China\u2019s most dynamic manufacturing regions.\u201d<\/p>\n
