The operation was first announced in a post on social media by U.S. President Donald Trump, before being confirmed by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centcom.mil\/MEDIA\/PRESS-RELEASES\/Press-Release-View\/Article\/4464037\/us-forces-disable-vessel-attempting-to-enter-iranian-port-violate-blockade\/\">statement<\/a> and media.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">According to U.S. President Donald J. These negotiations have been intermittent, with Pakistan serving as a mediator and hosting the delegations in Islamabad.<\/p>\n<p>The Iranian delegation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/world-weighs-fate-mideast-ceasefire-after-us-seizes-iranian-cargo-ship-2026-04-20\/\">according to <em>Reuters<\/em><\/a>, said that \u201cthe two sides had made progress but were still far apart on nuclear issues and \u200bthe Strait [of Hormuz].\u201d However, Iranian state media has now reported that Tehran rejected new\u00a0talks.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. delegation is expected to participate in the new round of talks on Apr. 20. On the other hand, Iran threatened to respond by hitting power stations and desalination plants in the neighboring countries in the Gulf.<\/p>\n<p>The naval blockade was imposed after the failure of the first round of negotiations on Apr. 11 and 12. A day later, CENTCOM started enforcing the blockade of all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports, in accordance with Trump\u2019s statements.<\/p>\n<p>Iran condemned the blockade describing it as illegal and as an act of piracy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/live-updates\/iran-war-us-iran-ports-blockade-strait-of-hormuz-trump\/\">later threatening<\/a> that \u201cno port in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea will be safe\u201d if the security of the Iranian ports is threatened.
