Lufthansa’s new Allegris First Class cabin has finally taken flight, after delays in certification.
However, the suites design has come in for criticism from flight attendants. According to a report in the aeroTELEGRAPH, which cites a letter from a committee of cabin staff representatives, the middle double suite, designed for couples, is of significant concern.
The airline offers the second passenger a 30% discount on the ticket price. However, there is only one screen, one table and less storage space than individual seats.

“Couples rarely have the same sleep rhythms or film preferences”, said the letter. “Instead of an exclusive feel-good atmosphere, there is more of a feeling of confinement and coercion – no trace of a premium experience.”
The committee is also reported to have criticised the arrangements for items such as bedding. As there is little stowage space in the seat, these items are kept in an overhead locker elsewhere on the aircraft.
Lufthansa’s Allegris product on the B787 has been beset by delays ever since it was first announced back in 2017. Other than delays in certification (which are not unusual for entirely new or heavily customised seat designs), the programme was also delayed due to the pandemic, and related supplier shortages.
The letter reported by aeroTELEGRAPH also raises concerns over the number of crew available to cater for First Class passengers on the B787, particularly as the Allegris is such a new and complex product that might need demonstrating to customers.
